These components have different operating principles, common models, and specific precautions that should be taken when using them.

As a sensing element, the reed switch closes its normally open contacts when a magnet approaches, thereby activating the sensing circuit. The contact’s current-carrying capacity is only ten milliamperes.

Semiconductor Device Characteristics

Semiconductor devices such as diodes and transistors play a crucial role in circuit design. The forward voltage drop of a diode when it is conducting typically ranges from 1.5 to 2 V, whereas the forward voltage drop of a standard silicon diode is about 0.7 V. The operating current of a light-emitting diode usually falls within the range of 10 to 40 mA.

Component Applications in Circuits

In different types of circuits, there are numerous and diverse application examples for electronic components. For instance, the operating voltage of a toy DC motor is relatively low—typically ranging from 1.5 to 3 volts—which is sufficient to start the motor. However, its starting current is relatively high, reaching 1 to 2 amperes. When running under no-load conditions, the motor’s operating current is about 500 milliamperes. As for relay coils, their operating current is approximately 60 milliamperes, with coil supply voltages of either 3V or 6V. The contact’s operating DC voltage is 24V at 1 ampere.

Special electronic components

The application of special components such as optocouplers, sensors, and pull-up resistors in circuits is also crucial. For example, the photoresistor MG45 has a light resistance ranging from 2 to 10 kΩ when exposed to light. The commonly used MG45-1 model photoresistor, when operating at a voltage of 5V, should not draw a current exceeding 2 mA. Sensors like the temperature sensor LM35D integrate the temperature-sensing element with an amplification circuit, enabling convenient temperature measurement.

Examples of semiconductor device applications

Semiconductor devices find extensive and specific applications in modern electronic equipment. A Zener diode is an electronic component used to stabilize voltage; its reverse breakdown voltage is referred to as the Zener voltage. The maximum current density of a conventional diode is approximately 2 A/cm², and its reverse resistance must also fall within an appropriate range. Field-effect transistors are renowned for their high input impedance and low output impedance.
